Philippines goes hyperscale with planned data centre campus

A data centre campus, Narra Technology Park, is being planned in the Philippines, with a launch date for the first phase of the development taking place in late 2025.

As local news reports note, this lease deal, to build a US$2.7 billion 300MW hyperscale data centre facility, positions the Philippines as a player in the global hyperscale data centre market.

Manila-based Endec Group – a company engaged in consulting, engineering, and project and construction management – and Narra Technology Park Development Inc, have signed a lease contract deal for a 47-hectare site within an area called New Clark City (NCC).

New Clark City (NCC) is located some 130 kilometres north of Manila. It is a planned community, currently undergoing development, located within the Clark Special Economic Zone in the towns of Bamban and Capas in Tarlac province. It covers approximately 9,450 hectares.

NCC is owned and managed by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), which says NCC is at a confluence of industry and agriculture with existing infrastructure and connectivity to Manila and rest of the Philippines.

BCDA describes itself as a prime mover of national development. It says it transforms former military bases and properties into premier centres of economic growth in partnership with the private sector.

The new facility is to be built in three 100MW phases. Work on the first phase is expected to begin in August, with this phase targeted to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2025.

The Data Centre Dynamics website says that Endec has reportedly signed a 50-year lease, expandable up to 25 years. The Tarlac local government will have a 60-40 profit sharing agreement with BCDA for the lease. The 47-hectare land is part of the 50-hectare parcel of land in NCC allocated by BCDA to the Tarlac government.

The website adds that last year President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr announced that two companies were in negotiations to develop data centres in NCC: Endec and Diode Ventures.
