Tecto, the data centre subsidiary of global end-to-end digital infrastructure solutions company V.tal has announced some of the details of its first hyperscale data centre in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
In a LinkedIn post it said it was thrilled to announce the acquisition of land in Santana de Parnaiba to build the data centre, which is designed to support high-density workloads. In fact the new facility, with initial power already secured, is expected to deliver 200 MW of capacity, powered entirely by 100% renewable energy.
Describing the investment as a “significant milestone” in its ambitious expansion plan, Tecto notes that it has US$1 billion already allocated for new data centre projects in the Latin American region. Indeed, it has five data centres currently operating in Brazil and Colombia, and construction is underway for a large-scale data centre called Mega Lobster in Fortaleza, a city in the state of Ceara in northeastern Brazil.
We reported late last year that V.tal had unveiled Tecto Data Centres as the new brand for its data centre business unit, having announced the separation of this unit from its neutral network FTTH (fibre to the home) and wholesale businesses.
The launch of the new brand coincided with the start of construction of Mega Lobster, which will occupy an area of 13,000 square metres and will have a capacity of 20MW.
We also reported in late 2024 that V.tal had agreed a contract with Atlas Renewable Energy, an international renewable energy solutions provider which said it was entering the data centre sector in Latin America through the deal, starting with a solar plant in the Brazilian city of Arinos in northern Minas Gerais state.
As for the São Paulo facility, the Data Centre Dynamics website says that further specifications have not been shared, nor have timelines for construction, but that V.tal first acquired the land parcel in October 2024.
As well as its data centre investments, V.tal has a number of subsea cable investments in Latin America and thousands of miles of terrestrial fibre.
