STT GDC India, a division of one of the world’s fastest-growing data centre providers, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, has announced plans to build a data centre campus in Meerkhanpet, near Hyderabad in India.
The project will involve an investment estimated at a little over US$400million, although specific details about the planned campus do not yet appear to be available.
That said, Telangana’s Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy has been widely quoted as referring to a “state-of-the-art AI-ready data centre campus” that will feature cutting-edge technologies with a targeted capacity of up to 100MW. He noted that it will also offer scalability for future growth, making it one of the largest data centre projects in the country.
According to the Data Centre Dynamics website, as well as the majority ownership by STT GDC, local company Tata Communications holds a minority stake in the company.
It also points out that STT GDC India currently manages more than 318 MW of critical IT load spread across 28 facilities, including facilities under development, across ten cities in India.
We reported late last year that STT GDC has plans to invest US$3.2 billion to expand its data centre capacity in India by 550MW, nearly tripling its IT load capacity to meet the demands of India’s digital economy over the next five to six years.
Data Centre Dynamics adds that Hyderabad has become a recent hotspot for data centres, underlining the growth of the Indian data centre industry as a whole.
