Angola Cables opens data centre in Brazil

Multinational telecommunications company Angola Cables has announced the opening of its carrier-neutral data centre, Angonap, in Fortaleza, Brazil.

The recently completed facility is now open for business and offers scalability, continuous connectivity and host and cloud services for local and external entities.

Angola Cables’ business is the sale of international transmission capacity through submarine fibre optic cables and IP transit. Angonap is a Tier III designed data centre that, Angola Cables says, will accommodate the growing demand for content data transmission in the southern hemisphere.

Angonap will also host intercontinental submarine cables, including two operated by Angola Cables: SACS (South Atlantic Cable System) and Monet (a cable system, operational in May 2018, that connects Boca Raton, Florida, to both Fortaleza and Santos, Brazil). It will also accommodate other international submarine cable systems, backhaul providers, content providers and CDNs, including research and academic internet exchange points in Latin America.

In the longer term Angonap is expected to receive future cables landing in Fortaleza and to provide multiple connection services for operators or businesses requiring high-capacity data services – in particular enabling African entities to develop businesses in different regions of Brazil, Latin America and the USA.

Angola Cables also manages the Angonap Luanda data centre, connected to SACS and WACS (the West Africa Cable System), and Angonix, an Internet Exchange Point located in Luanda and the third largest in Africa.

Located in one of the most important and concentrated cable hubs in South America, the Angonap Fortaleza data centre currently occupies an area of 2100m², with a total area of 9000m² available for future expansion.
