Middle Eastern press outlets have reported an alliance between Ooredoo Kuwait, a telecommunications company owned by the Qatar-based Ooredoo group, and Batelco, the principal telecommunications company in Bahrain, to establish what is known as Global Zone Kuwait.
Global Zone, a carrier-neutral data centre, was launched in Bahrain in 2019. It offers what is described as a rich digital business solutions portfolio including Manama-IX, a carrier-neutral internet exchange, Cloud Connect solutions, and IPT solutions. These will now also be available in Global Zone Kuwait.
The growth of Global Zone and its expansion into new markets has been aided, a statement from the partners says, by a seamless data centre interconnection created and entirely powered by Kuwaiti ISP FASTtelco. FASTtelco was acquired by Ooredoo in 2016.
The companies say that the expanded partnership with Batelco will give FASTtelco access to a new set of products to further grow its portfolio by offering AWS DX, Global Zone, MPLS and MN-IX. It will also provide Ooredoo Kuwait clients with access to additional global fibre routes.
Featuring state-of-the-art high-density designed systems, Global Zone Kuwait is being developed rapidly and supported by a superhighway network infrastructure. Ooredoo Kuwait/FASTtelco and Batelco’s partners can use these solutions for their business needs and, it is hoped, reach new markets, while eliminating the complexity of getting connected to other players.
Batelco’s expansion of Global Zone into the Kuwaiti market is described by the partners as a stepping stone into a rollout plan for the region.
