Morocco ministries tap Nokia and Ericsson to boost digital development

The Moroccan government has signed separate MoUs with Nokia and Ericsson to accelerate its Digital Morocco 2030 plan, with both vendors agreeing to contribute to digital talent development among other things.

On Wednesday, Nokia said it signed an MoU with the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform under which its Nokia Innovation Center, which was inaugurated on 2023, will nurture talent training, research, and development of customized solutions for Morocco’s digital landscape. The centre will also support the Ministry’s Al Jazari initiative, further fostering local innovation and technological excellence.

Nokia will also collaborate in developing the skills of young Moroccan talents in digital technologies, telecommunications, and IT through internationally recognized certification programs.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Ericsson announced it has signed an MoU with Morocco’s Ministry of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills Employment (MIEPECC) to explore different areas that entrepreneurs and small businesses in Morocco can benefit from Ericsson’s global educational initiatives, and access different learning experiences through Ericsson’s portfolio of educational programs.

Ericsson said the collaboration aims to help equip entrepreneurs and small business owners with essential 21st-century digital skills, contributing to sustainable employment and innovation across sectors in Morocco. Ericsson added it would also align with MIEPEEC’s broader vision of promoting economic inclusion and supporting small businesses through accessible digital transformation initiatives.

Nokia’s MoU with the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform also includes provisions for the vendor to provide consultancy services to boost national internet coverage via deployment of 5G and expansion of fibre optic networks, as well as initiatives such as the National High Debit Plan and infrastructure-sharing strategies.

Nokia also agreed to contribute its expertise in telecoms infrastructure to enhance digital experiences for users at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) football tournament and the 2030 FIFA World Cup, both of which Morocco will be hosting.

Both MoUs were signed during the GITEX 2025 industry event in Marrakech.
