Airtel Money Tanzania says it is partnering with the Tanzania Cooperative Development Commission (TCDC) to expand digital financial services to thousands of farmers across the country.
In a post on LinkedIn on Wednesday, Airtel Money said the TCDC partnership enables farmers to receive direct mobile payments. The initiative will also give farmers access to affordable smartphones.
Airtel Money and TCDC will also provide tailored income credits to support farm growth and financial education to provide farmers with the skills to manage their finances effectively, especially in underserved areas.
“Together, we are ensuring that farmers are included from the formal financial system, as we support their growth and security,” Airtel Money posted.
The agreement with TCDC follows a successful pilot in Morogoro in which Airtel Money worked with select Agricultural Marketing Cooperative Societies (AMCOS) to disburse digital payments for agricultural inputs.
Airtel Money said the pilot “demonstrated increased efficiency, transparency, and access to financial tools for smallholder farmers.”
