Tcell launches mobile payments service in Tajikistan

Tajikistan’s Tcell has launched a smartphone-based mobile finance offering branded as TezSum.

The iOS and Android application will allow Tcell’s customers to pay utility bills and transfer money to other Tcell account balances as well as any bank accounts registered with the Tajik national financial system Corti Milli. Users will be able to deposit and withdraw money via the app thanks to a nationwide agent network.

Ozodkhon Davlatshoev, director general of Tcell, said: “The whole world went into the digital era; the classic paper business is no longer successful. Speed, efficiency and ease in any business [will be a] priority for everyone, be it communication with family and friends, workflows, or payment of any bills. Tcell leads many projects aimed at the transition to the digital sphere. It is important for us that our subscribers in Tajikistan can use all technology development.”

The operator, which is country’s second biggest, was previously an indirect unit of Sweden’s Telia, which has now exited the Eurasia region.
