America Movil, Telxius showcase new subsea cable

America Movil and Telxius unveiled a new ultrahigh capacity subsea cable to link Guatemala to the US from 2025, as part of wider plans to improve global connectivity through bolstering the link between America Movil and Telxius parent Telefonica.

The subsea cable is called AMX3 by America Movil and Tikal by Telxius. It will be the highest capacity undersea cable to connect the two countries, between the cities of Puerto Barrios and Boca Raton, Florida.

It has an estimated capacity of 190Tbps, serving as a key route in the Caribbean providing reliable and secure connectivity. Alcatel Submarine Networks has been signed as the subsea provider, with the scope to increase capacity and add additional branches including a landing in Cancun, Mexico, Telxius highlighted.

The cable also adds to America Movil's extensive subsea network which delivers capacity through over 197,000km of subsea cables.

AMX3/Tikal will be the seventh subsea cable added to the Telxius portfolio since 2018. Its other cables are Brusa, Mistral, Tannat, Junior, Marea and Dunant. Overall Telxius has an 82,000km subsea cable network serving the Americas and Europe.
