Indonesian operator Super Sistem, which is developing the Indonesian Barat Timur Indonesia (BTI) submarine cable system, has appointed consulting firm APTelecom to engage prospective customers on its behalf to undertake presales for the system.
APTelecom is also taking responsibility for the implementation and project management function for installation of the system.
The BTI domestic subsea fibre optic cable system will add broadband internet capacity in remote and underserved areas of Indonesia, and will link Batam, the largest city in the Indonesian province of Riau Islands, Jakarta, the country's capital, and Manado, the capital city of the Indonesian province of North Sulawesi, with a total of seven landing stations, with a combined length of more than 4,700 kilometres.
The BTI cable, says Super Sistem, will help to drive economic growth and facilitate digital connectivity across the broader Indonesian archipelago, well beyond Jakarta.
Founded in 2009, APTelecom’s reach and expertise, the company says, spans a wide range of established and emerging global markets. Among the company’s core offerings, underpinned by close relationships with submarine cable operators, are fibre sales, due diligence, and data centre and strategic telecommunications consulting services as well as project management services.
This isn’t the first partnership involving these two companies. According to the Submarine Cable Networks website, in July 2023 the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) awarded a grant to Super Sistem for a feasibility study to support the development of the BTI cable system. Super Sistem selected Florida-based APTelecom to conduct the study.
