Polish telecoms operator Exatel said it is deploying pluggable optical transceivers from Ciena in its multi-vendor SDN infrastructure to improve capacity and performance for its national fibre-optic network.
Exatel said on Thursday it will deploy Ciena’s WaveLogic 5 Nano (WL5n) 400G ZR+ coherent pluggable transceivers across multiple router vendors over an open photonic line system.
Exatel’s CTO Jacek Terpiłowski said the open, converged IP/optical solution will help it gain efficiencies in cost, power, space, and operations.
“We chose Ciena’s WaveLogic 5 Nano because it offers highly reliable 400Gb/s connectivity and seamless interoperability with our disaggregated network stack that we built ourselves, allowing us to efficiently maximize the utilization of our fibre infrastructure, while simultaneously minimizing the need for expensive infrastructure upgrades,” he said in a statement.
“By offering flexibility and diversity, open network architectures make it possible for operators like EXATEL to accelerate the development of new services and applications for evolving customer needs,” added Virginie Hollebecque, VP and Leader of EMEA at Ciena.
