Bhutan Telecom deploys Coriant platform for DWDM network

Bhutan Telecom has selected a backbone solution from Coriant for its new country-wide DWDM infrastructure network.

The operator is the market leader for telecom and internet services in the Kingdom of Bhutan, as well as the country’s only fixed-line provider. Under the agreement, it will deploy Coriant’s hiT 7300 Multi-Haul Transport Platform, allowing it to cost-effectively scale optical transport capacity as bandwidth-intensive end-user applications and services drive demand for increased network bandwidth.

Coriant’s platform will help Bhutan Telecom enhance the performance of its high-bandwidth business and consumer services, including 3G, LTE, VPN, and fixed line broadband Internet access. The new country-wide optical fibre backbone network, which replaces Bhutan Telecom's existing SDH transmission infrastructure, will be based on Coriant's coherent optical transmission technology.

The offering includes the Coriant Transport Network Management System (TNMS), an end-to-end management platform that simplifies service provisioning and reduces operating expenses, as well as a suite of professional services that will provide Bhutan Telecom with expertise in SDH network migration, photonic layer planning and design, network installation and maintenance, and other support services.

Tshewang Gyeltshen, CEO, Bhutan Telecom, said: "As the communications needs of our customers evolve, our new high-capacity DWDM infrastructure will allow us to deliver the service performance and quality they require to maximise the value of reliable broadband connectivity."

hiT 7300 is an industry-leading coherent optical communications system that supports the secure and reliable transmission of 100G+ per channel. The hiT 7300 achieves a total system capacity of up to 9.6 Tbps per fibre pair via 96 x 100G channels, and is designed to support up to 25.6 Tbps when using advanced flexi-rate, flexi-grid, and super-channel capabilities powered by Coriant CloudWave Optics.

"Bhutan Telecom is an important new customer for Coriant”, said Tarcisio Ribeiro, Executive Vice President, Global Sales & Services, Coriant. "We remain committed to bringing the industry's most advanced networking solutions to customers around the world as they build strategic infrastructure networks optimised for the best-possible customer experience."
