Thailand’s True and China’s GalaxySpace unite for LEO research

Thai technology company True Corporation has announced a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with GalaxySpace, a leading Chinese company in the low Earth orbit (LEO) internet satellites sector.

Under this collaboration, True Corporation and GalaxySpace have agreed to jointly study, share and exchange knowledge as well as develop and test data and technologies related to LEO satellite communication. This will include providing integrated network solutions for space and ground systems and direct-to-cell (D2C) satellite communication technology as well as innovation on hardware development.

The MoU also includes collaboration on business case analysis of the space industry, satellite use cases and applications. This will cover market analysis and exploration, enterprise solutions testing and validation, mobile backhaul optimisation, D2C technology validation, satellite Earth observation use cases, and solution research.

GalaxySpace successfully built China's first LEO satellite broadband communication test constellation called Mini Spider. In March 2024 the company successfully carried out China's first overseas LEO broadband satellite internet trials in Thailand with its local partners. Currently, GalaxySpace says it is accelerating the development and validation of direct-to-cell satellite technology.

True says this collaboration aims to enhance Thailand's digital telecommunications infrastructure, boosting the competitiveness of the business sectors, and driving the country's digital economy.

GalaxySpace adds that the partnership will expedite the research and service validation of D2C satellite technology and promote innovative applications of LEO satellite internet in maritime, agriculture, education, and connected vehicles sectors across Thailand and the ASEAN region, driving industry upgrades.
