Several Bangladeshi firms have reportedly partnered with satellite operator Starlink to support the setup of earth stations in Bangladesh.
The firms apparently signed collaboration contracts with Starlink while a team from the US telecommunications service provider visited Bangladesh.
Local news service the Daily Star says the collaboration includes space allocation, construction support, and ongoing infrastructure maintenance, but does not say who the participating local firms are.
In some cases, it adds, Starlink is considering using land owned by Bangladeshi companies, while in others it is looking at space within high-tech parks, presumably parks managed by Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA), a government agency in Bangladesh dedicated to establishing, managing and operating technology business parks throughout the country.
Discussions on locations and implementation details are ongoing, according to Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, described as a special assistant to the country’s chief advisor on telecommunications and IT.
As with other countries, the hope is that Starlink will ensure reliable and high-speed internet in Bangladesh's cities, remote areas, northern regions, or coasts, overcoming such issues as load shedding (energy shortages or blackouts) and natural disasters. The coverage of telecom-grade fibre networks in Bangladesh is limited and remote areas still have problems with load shedding.
The aim, apparently, is to try to implement a workable model with Starlink in the next 90 days.
