OneWeb has partnered with Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC) to boost broadband connectivity in Kazakhstan.
The agreement will see the companies introduce Kazakhstan’s first low-latency satellite broadband, as well as set up a local tech hub to facilitate OneWeb’s delivery of communication services in the region.
The companies are working towards the goals of the government’s Digital Kazakhstan initiative, which is targeting nationwide high-speed broadband availability by 2022. If this goal is met, 6,600 rural communities in Kazakhstan will have access to satellite broadband.
AIFC Governor Kairat Kelimbetov said: “AIFC is looking forward to bringing innovative projects to Kazakhstan by offering the best environment for setting up business and helping drive inward investment. This is the first step of many that will help to develop our economy.”
