New satellite deals will extend connectivity in Latin America

Recent satellite news from Latin America includes a backhaul contract for Gilat and an extended partnership involving SES and COMNET.

Following recently announced service delivery contracts in Argentina and Africa, Gilat Satellite Networks, which offers satellite and fibre-based connectivity solutions, has been awarded a five-year service project to provide 4G backhaul services in Latin America.

The project, which is worth more than $10 million for the company, involves providing coverage to half a million people in hundreds of sites in rural areas (plus another 400 additional villages to be connected next year), although precisely which countries may benefit from this in the early stages has not been made clear. Nor does the project end there. There is, apparently, expansion potential worth tens of millions of dollars.

Meanwhile COMNET, one of Guatemala’s leading service providers, will leverage SES Networks’ Signature Enterprise Solutions and the SES-14 satellite to extend its high-performance next-generation broadband service QUANTTUM across Latin America. Again there is no precise list of countries that will benefit as the extension rolls out.

SES leverages a vast network that spans satellite and ground infrastructure to create, deliver and manage video and data solutions.

COMNET will now use the expanded coverage of two satellites, SES-10 and SES-14, to gain access to dedicated bandwidth, flexibility in service design, and teleport operations to serve customers in industries such as energy, agriculture, construction and government.
