Batelco taps Oracle for upgrades

US cloud giants Oracle announced Beyon-owned operator Batelco chose the vendor to upgrade its core IT platforms, in a move to enhance new services and respond to changing market dynamics.

Beyon CTO Saurabh Gupta said: “We need agile, reliable solutions that empower us to respond to the competition and evolving market. With Oracle Communications’ cloud-native business support systems (BSS) and operations support systems (OSS), we can launch new products and services in days, not months, offer best-in-class customer experiences, and roll out product enhancements faster. These technologies will be a cornerstone of delivering on our mission of providing world-class connectivity solutions.”

Batelco technology general manager Rashid Mohamed added the partnership to accelerate digital transformation in the telecoms sector and optimise Batelco’s infrastructure while setting it up for new opportunities.

Specifically, Batelco will upgrade its Oracle Communications products with cloud-native versions, before moving mission-critical telco workloads to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and its Oracle Container Engine for Kubernetes. This will enable more fully managed automation of OSS/BSS workloads.

Batelco is also upgrading its Oracle Siebel CRM and moving to the latest versions of several Oracle Communications solutions, such as Oracle’s Cloud Scale Charging and Billing.
