Ericsson Nikola Tesla to deploy dual-mode 5G core in Croatia and Montenegro

Croatian service provider Hrvatski Telekom and Montenegran operator Crnogorski Telekom have selected Croatian telecoms manufacturer Ericsson Nikola Tesla as the sole supplier of software and connected services for implementation of new 4G/5G core networks.

Ericsson’s cloud-native dual-mode 5G core will be implemented and integrated into Hrvatski Telekom’s and Crnogorski Telekom’s new generation T-CaaS (total cloud as a service) cloud infrastructure.

Hrvatski Telekom says the implementation of the new 5G network functions further strengthens its leadership position in the application of cloud technologies in the field of telecommunications and ICT solutions

The deployment of the new core network ensures that Hrvatski Telekom and Crnogorski Telekom can provide their customers with faster introduction of new services and features. It also enables the introduction of the 5G standalone network (5G SA) that uses the latest 5G technologies such as network slicing and edge computing, and with it new innovative services to customers.

This latest agreement, say the partners, continues the long-term cooperation in the implementation of Ericsson’s most advanced communication solutions, which Ericsson Nikola Tesla brings to the markets of Croatia and Montenegro.

Boris Drilo, CTIO, Hrvatski Telekom, says “Our commitment is to provide superior 5G service for our customers in Croatia. The new 5G core network solution will further enhance the capabilities and performance of our 5G stack. I am looking forward to this project that will bring two leading components of 5G core network together - network functions software from Ericsson and our telecommunication cloud native infrastructure.”
