Jio, AMD, Cisco, and Nokia plan AI platform for telco automation

India-based Jio Platforms announced at Mobile World Congress 2025 on Monday it has teamed with AMD, Cisco, and Nokia to create an 'Open Telecom AI Platform' that promises to integrate AI and automation into every layer of telco network operations.

Jio Platforms describes the Telecom AI Platform as a multi-domain intelligence framework that will create a new central intelligence layer for telecom and digital services that will transform networks into “self-optimizing, customer-aware ecosystems”.

Jio Platforms’ mobile unit Reliance Jio will be the first operator to implement the Telecom AI Platform, which will be designed with a reference architecture that can be replicated and deployed for other telcos.

The AI platform will harness agentic AI and leverage large language models (LLMs), domain-specific small language models (SLMs), and non-GenAI machine learning techniques. Jio Platforms said the platform will be LLM agnostic and utilize open APIs to optimize its functionality and capabilities.

AMD, Cisco and Nokia said they will contribute their collective expertise in their domains, including RAN, routing, AI data centres, security and telecom, to the initiative.

Reliance Jio group CEO Mathew Oommen said the Telecom AI Platform is set to drive unprecedented efficiency, security, capabilities, and new revenue opportunities for  telcos whilst also reducing total cost of ownership (TCO).

"By harnessing agentic AI across all telco layers, we are building a multimodal, multidomain orchestrated workflow platform that redefines efficiency, intelligence, and security for the telecom industry," Oommen said in a statement. “This initiative goes beyond automation—it’s about enabling AI-driven, autonomous networks that adapt in real time, enhance user experiences, and create new service and revenue opportunities across the digital ecosystem.”
