DAT and Clipfeed partner to target mobile esport market in Africa

Underlining the growing importance of content-driven business models in African mobile communications, mobile technology company Digital Afrique Telecom (DAT) has announced a partnership with gaming and esports entertainment company Clipfeed to bring esports to mobile operators in Africa.

DAT and Clipfeed will co-develop what they call Africa Gaming box, a white label platform for mobile operators to offer esports services to their users throughout the continent. This platform will include features such as live tournaments, engaging esports challenges, rewards and much more.

The partners will bring relevant experience to this project. Clipfeed says it works with telecom operators, DTH, ISP and OEM partners to create innovative and compelling entertainment destinations for consumers.

DAT, meanwhile, describes itself as the go-to organisation for everything SAAS and VAS for mobile operators in Africa. DAT provides reliable and customisable mobile technology services and solutions to meet customer needs with a strong technical and interconnected platform.

As the partners point out, Africa is a prime market for esports growth. The continent has a young and growing population, is becoming increasingly connected to the internet and has a rich culture of games and competition.

Globally the esports industry is expected to reach a value of US$1.6 billion in 2023, and Africa is one of the key regions for potential growth. The African esport market is growing faster than the global average; the number of esports enthusiasts in sub-Saharan Africa is expected to reach 222 million by 2025.

Through this partnership, DAT and Clipfeed say they offer a unique opportunity for mobile operators to tap into this booming market and enable easy access for mobile users to benefit from esports content.
