Chile’s WOM has launched commercial 5G services across several regions of the country.
After debuting the service across a limited area in January this year, WOM has now expanded the network to cover 99 settlements across Biobio, Valparaiso and the Santiago Metropolitan Region. All WOM customers with 5G-capable devices can access the service with no extra fees.
Local news outlet Pisapapeles conducted network speed tests in Santiago and Valparaiso, and achieved speeds of 350Mbps and 300Mbps respectively. CommsUpdate notes that WOM’s 5G service is compatible with devices from a range of manufacturers, including Huawei, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Vivo and Xiaomi.
WOM CEO Christopher Laska said: “We are very pleased to be able to officially launch our 5G network, starting with the regions and in line with our commitment to democratise and decentralise connectivity. Likewise, we are focused on accelerating the deployment during the next five months from Arica to Punta Arenas and thus delivering the best experience to all our clients.”
