Nigeria’s Globacom has launched an LTE-A network across several of the country’s main cities to bolster the speed and resilience of its existing 4G services.

Local outlet The Guardian reported that Globacom will deploy more than 4,000 LTE-A mobile sites throughout the rest of this year, prioritising major towns and cities. The operator claimed that it will be able to boost the capacity and quality of its 4G network via a newly acquired 26GHz spectrum holding.

According to data from TeleGeography, Globacom is Nigeria’s second largest operator by subscribers, with its market share of 28.7% placing it fractionally ahead of Airtel’s 28.5%. Both lag behind market leader MTN, which has 36.3%.
