Ericsson says it has signed a strategic partnership deal with Orange Maroc to modernize and expand its core network infrastructure to support a planned rollout of standalone 5G in Morocco later this year.
According to a release from Ericsson on Monday, Orange Maroc will deploy Ericsson’s dual-mode 5G core and cloud native infrastructure solution.
“By integrating advanced technologies like Ericsson’s dual-mode 5G core and cloud native infrastructure solution, we’re focused on enhancing network capacity and improving customer experiences,” said Majda Lahlou Kassi, VP and head of Ericsson’s Customer Unit for West and South Africa, in a statement.
Ericsson said the partnership will also focus on expanding advanced services such as mobile broadband, fixed wireless access (FWA), gaming, and industrial connectivity.
Kassi added that the deal builds on a partnership between the two companies dating back over 20 years. She also said the initiative is part of a broader effort to support Morocco’s Digital 2030 strategy, which aims to accelerate innovation and connectivity across various sectors.
According to Morocco World News, Morocco’s National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT) said in April 2025 it wants to see 5G rollouts commencing in the country this coming November, just before the start of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON). ANRT has set targets to cover 25% of the population with 5G by the end of this year, and 70% by the end of 2030.
To that end, in March this year, Moroccan operators Maroc Telecom and Inwi signed an expanded partnership agreement to consolidate parts of their passive telecom infrastructure to accelerate deployment of fibre optic and 5G technologies across the country.
