Wind selects Samsung to provide new WiMAX network to Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic will soon benefit from a new mobile WiMAX network, which is to be constructed by Samsung. Installation and deployment will begin in the second quarter of 2010, with commercial services available in San Domingo and Santiago from the third quarter, with other cities to follow.

Wind Telecom, who with this deployment have become the third WiMAX provider in the Dominican Republic, chose Samsung’s end-to-end solution, which includes infrastructure, training, engineering and terminals. Samsung will provide full support for systems and services.

Manuel E. Bonilla, CEO of Wind Telecom, commented “We are very pleased to team up with Samsung for our mobile WiMAX business and we are very confident of the time-to-market launch and successful business with Samsung’s technical leadership.”

“We believe that Mobile WiMAX is the most efficient 4G communication technology to satisfy the growing market needs like broadband internet and VoIP in the Dominican Republic. Together with our current subscription TV services, we will also provide high quality triple-play service.’

Wind will offer the service together with its existing broadband and TV services as a triple-play option.
