TD-LTE (4G) trial networks are currently being tested in China by Nokia Siemens Networks for the market leader China Mobile. The trials have been underway since May in Hangzhou and Xiamen, and are allowing users access to peak download and upload speeds of up to 100 Mbps along with uninterrupted access to applications such as video streaming and online HD video conferencing.
NSN has already finished testing the core network and is now testing radio access. It is working with China’s Ministry of Information and Industry Technology (MIIT) on TD-LTE device testing, and will use devices in the trial, when testing is completed.
“In Zheijang region we reached a major milestone earlier this year with 50 million subscribers – and we can also see the data boom in the network,” said Zhong Tianhua, General Manager of China Mobile Group Zhejiang Co. Ltd.
NSN deployed its single RAN advanced TD-LTE equipment in 2.3GHz and 2.6GHz spectrum. The company’s network management system, NetAct is providing configuration, monitoring and operations support system capabilities during the trial. NSNis also providing network planning and optimisation services.
Markus Borchert, head of customer operations for Greater China at Nokia Siemens Networks, said: “China Mobile’s trust in our TD-LTE capabilities for this large-scale trial affirms our technology leadership and readiness for large-scale commercial TD-LTE rollouts.”
