Chinese vendor ZTE is currently discussing a 4G deal for the Mumbai and Delhi circles with Indian market leader Bharti Airtel.
ZTE has previously deployed 4G network equipment for the operator in the Haryana, Kolkata and Punjab circles, including more than 1800 base transceiver stations.
The vendor’s Senior Vice President Renjun Zhang said: "We are in discussions to deploy 4G [LTE] networks in metro cities but Airtel has not taken a decision yet... There is no time-frame to give.”
The two densely populated metropolitan circles have around 138 million subscribers between them. Reportedly, the deal would cover the deployment of over 5000 towers for the two cities.
ZTE recently scored a 4G deployment deal with Bharti’s rival operator Aircel. The deal covered two different circles – Chennai and Rest of Tamil Nadu.
