Cable & Wireless Seychelles has contracted Syniverse to provide global LTE reach to its inbound and outbound roaming subscribers.
The agreement marks a critical step in Cable & Wireless Seychelles’ ability to provide the highest-quality service in a tourism-driven roaming market.

Mobile voice and data usage from international visitors are key sources of revenues for operators on the Seychelles islands. The annual number of inbound tourists continues to soar and, according to the United Nations World Travel Organisation Tourism Barometer, the Seychelles saw a more than 18% rise in the number of tourists in the last year. In 2015 alone, the number of tourists reached over 276,000, far exceeding the nation’s 95,000-plus citizens.
Global LTE brings a host of challenges when it comes to interoperability among mobile operators. It involves a complex undertaking that requires testing to ensure the quality of processes, clearing and settlement, and customer-experience protection between one LTE network and another. A crucial part of this involves the deployment of an IPX network, the network backbone that makes LTE roaming possible, and Diameter, the industry-standard signalling protocol for messages from mobile devices, and the management of proper routing and delivery of Diameter signalling messages.
Syniverse’s IPX Network Solution, along with its Diameter Signalling Service, connects Cable & Wireless Seychelles to the world’s networks to make global LTE possible. The IPX Network Solution provides a carrier-grade connection to the company’s all-IP network, which currently serves more than 2,300 LTE routes and LTE reach to more than 325 operators in nearly 130 countries, including direct and indirect connections.
