Ooredoo Myanmar has extended its 4G coverage to 200 townships, encompassing two-thirds of the country’s inhabited settlements.

Sheikh Saud bin Nasser Al Thani, Ooredoo group CEO, said: “We are on a mission to enable customers across our footprint to access and enjoy the internet, and enhance their digital experience. Through our network modernisation programme, we have brought 4G+ services to our customers in Myanmar, allowing individuals and businesses to take advantage of the host of new opportunities that faster internet can bring.”

Vikram Sinha, CEO of Ooredoo Myanmar, added: “We have big plans for 2018 and are working hard for network upgrades.”

Ooredoo is the country’s third largest operator, with 10.2 million mobile connections at the end of 2017, giving it a market share of 19%. It leads the market in terms of 4G subscribers, with 66% of its customers on 4G tariffs.

[The operator announced in November last year that it would upgrade its 4G network in order to extend coverage to 30% of the country’s population by December 31st](https://developingtelecoms.com/tech/data-centres-networks/7422-ooredoo-expanding-4g-network-in-myanmar-with-zte-and-nokia.html). By combining carrier aggregation, 4×4 MIMO, 256 QAM and Licence Assisted Access (LAA) technology, the network overhaul increased theoretical peak download speeds to 500Mb/s at certain points.
