Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT) is now offering commercial 4G services across several cities in the country.
With commercial 4G now live in Blairmont, Georgetown, Great Diamond, Lusignan and New Amsterdam, the operator has stated that any subscribers with compatible devices will be upgraded to 4G for free.
The launch was welcomed by Guyana’s Minister of Public Telecommunications Catherin Hughes, who noted that high speed data services were a core pillar of the government’s ‘Decade of Development’ plan for economic growth and called for the service to be extended to unserved areas “in the shortest possible time”.
In a statement, GTT’s CEO Justin Need said that the operator planned to extend its 4G offering as soon as it has acquired more spectrum. He did not disclose a timeline for deployment, nor did he confirm which spectrum bands GTT has used to deploy the new service.
