Cellnex is acquiring 99.99% of Polish tower company Polkomtel Infrastruktura from its parent company Cyfrowy Polsat for €1.6 billion.
Once the deal closes, Cellnex has confirmed that it will invest as much as €600 million into 5G equipment across the next 10 years, deploying around 1500 new sites. The companies have entered a service agreement valid for 25 years, with options to renew for 15-year periods.
Cellnex head Tobias Martinez said the agreement demonstrates the firm’s “commitment to evolving the traditional tower operator model towards an integrated telecommunications infrastructure management model”.
Cyfrowy Polsat owns and runs around 7000 sites across Poland, with CEO Miroslaw Blaszczyk noting that the Cellnex deal and projected new sites would lead to returns of up to €330 million.
