Telia Eesti to wind down 3G offering before 2024

Estonia’s Telia Eesti has stated that it plans to shut down its 3G network by the end of 2023.

The fixed and wireless operator noted that the network accounts for around 1% of its total mobile internet traffic, and less than a third of total voice traffic.

Chief Technology Officer Andre Visse said: “We can see from the preferences of our customers that less and less phones that only support 3G are used, which in turn constantly reduces voice and data traffic on our 3G network.”

CommsUpdate reports that following the shutdown, Telia Eesti will repurpose the vacated 3G spectrum to bolster its 4G and 5G offerings.
