Orange holds 5G Reunion

Orange has launched 5G services in the French overseas territory of Réunion, reported Les Echos.

Orange Reunion Mayotte regional director Andre Martin said the carrier is targeting coverage of 83% of the population.

The deployment will come in stages, starting with the more populated central areas.

The following locations are in the immediate rollout plan: Le Port, Saint-Pierre, Saint-Benoit, Saint-Gilles and Le Tampon.

Martin detailed that 400 antennas will be replaced as part of modernisation efforts, while equipment dismantled from its 4G network will be sent to boost Orange's subsidiary Malagasy in Madagascar.

In preparation for its 5G launch, in March this year, Orange acquired two blocks of 10 MHz spectrum on the 700MHz band for €5 million, and 100MHz in the 3.4GHz-3.8GHz band for €10,000.
