Orange wins Telecom Egypt’s roaming tender

Telecom Egypt has signed a five-year national roaming deal with Orange Egypt.

As reported by CommsUpdate, Telecom Egypt’s current roaming agreement with etisalat by e& (formerly Etisalat Misr) is due to expire in December 2022, prompting the operator to tender for a new deal. Orange was awarded the contract as – according to Telecom Egypt – its technical and financial proposal offered the best value and return.

Telecom Egypt claimed that the roaming agreement would “ensure that [the operator] continues to provide high-quality voice and data mobile network coverage to its customers nationwide”, and also claimed that the deal would offer a technical edge enabling it to “boost the development of [its] services.”

Adel Hamed, Telecom Egypt’s Managing Director and CEO, said: “The new milestone will cement our position as a strong contender in the mobile market through the technical, commercial, and financial benefits—in particular, financial savings for our mobile call costs starting in 2023, which will improve the business line and consequently the overall margin—in line with our growing customer base. Concurrently, Telecom Egypt is committed to expanding its mobile network coverage by rolling out its mobile sites all over Egypt to provide superior telecommunication services to its customers.”
