Malaysia’s Maxis has confirmed that its board is evaluating the governance requirements for signing an access deal with the country’s 5G wholesale vehicle Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB).
Currently, Maxis is the only major mobile player not to have signed an access agreement with DNB, but has expressed its desire to reach a deal swiftly so that it can proactively participate in bringing 5G to Malaysia. Digi, Celcom Axiata, Telekom Malaysia and U Mobile all have agreements in place with the wholesaler.
Alongside U Mobile, Maxis has opted not to take a shareholding in DNB. Rivals Celcom, Telekom Malaysia and YTL Communications are all taking a 17.5% stake in the wholesale unit, while Digi will take a 12.5% holding. Malaysia’s Ministry of Finance has a 35% share in DNB.
