Axian Telecom buys more shares in Free Senegal

Axian Telecom signed a deal to acquire a further 40% stake in Senegalese operator Free taking its total ownership to 80% to consolidate operations.

In a statement, Axian Telecom chairman Hassanein Hiridjee said: “This additional investment reflects our continued confidence in the thriving economy of Senegal, and increases our footprint in West African markets.

“Hand in hand with the strong commitment of all our colleagues in Senegal, we will continue to energize Senegal’s telecommunications ecosystem, with a focus on deploying cutting-edge technologies and ensuring a better experience for individuals and businesses.”

Axian and partners in the Saga Africa Holdings consortium acquired Free Senegal when it was branded as Tigo from Millicom in 2018. NJJ Capital is also part of the consortium and is owned by Iliad founder Xavier Niel.

Axian Telecom has interests and assets across eight markets in Africa including Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Uganda to name a few.
