Indian equipment provider Tejas Networks won a contract worth INR74.9 billion (US900 million) from BSNL to supply gear, support and maintain annually the operator’s 4G/5G network.
In a statement, Tejas Networks stated it received a purchase order to equip 100,000 sites, which will be executed in 2023 and 2024. The vendor gained the contract after completing extensive trials as part of a consortium led by Tata Consultancy Services.
Tejas Networks CEO and managing director Anand Athreya said the vendor is the sole supplier of RAN equipment for BSNL.
Chief technology officer Kumar Sivarajan added: “Our state-of-the-art 4G/5G RAN products were subjected to rigorous field testing by BSNL for 18 months before being chosen for this large-scale commercial deployment.
“This win is a true testament to the engineering excellence and innovation prowess of our R&D team that successfully developed and delivered an industry-leading product in a complex technology area in record time.”
