State-backed Argentinean provider ARSAT is reportedly planning to deploy fixed wireless access (FWA) services using its 700MHz and AWS spectrum holding.
The report from TeleSemana cites “irrefutable sources” which claim that discussions regarding both the FWA deployment and the development of an IoT business unit are in “advanced stages.” Argentina is holding a general election in October, after which the initiatives will be proposed to the new government.
CommsUpdate reports that ARSAT holds a 2×10MHz block of 700MHz spectrum and a 2×10MHz block of AWS spectrum. In a controversial move, regulator ENACOM (Ente Nacional de Comunicaciones) is planning to allocate ARSAT a 100MHz holding of 3.5GHz spectrum in this year’s 5G auctions. However, as we reported yesterday, ENACOM has now been ordered to submit a report on the “public interest compromised by [this] request” by a Federal Court.
