UAE-based telco du says has officially set a new Guinness World Record for the "longest promotional livestream” with TikTok Live MENA, in which a single smartphone livestreamed across the country’s seven emirates for 48 hours straight over du’s 5G network.
The livestream, which took place from April 11-13, featured a seamless handoff between UAE-based content creators undertaking various activities across Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, such as kayaking, ziplining and hot air balloon rides. A representative from Guinness World Records certified the result.
Du said on Thursday that the TikTok livestream event was a publicity stunt to test and showcase the capabilities of its 5G network, which covers 99% of the UAE. Du said the livestream was free from drops, lag, or any disruptions for the entire 48-hour period.
“With our top-tier connectivity, we are opening up new possibilities for people to experience the richness of UAE's cultural and adventurous offerings, directly from their screens,” said Du CCO Karim Benkirane in a statement.
Benkirane said du is continuing to expand and enhance its 5G infrastructure with 5G-Advanced capabilities across the UAE. Du has also been investing in 5G cloud RAN in collaboration with Nokia and Amazon Web Services.
Meanwhile, TikTok LIVE MENA regional director Boxia Liu said the livestream event “not only set a new world record but also redefined how digital platforms can connect cultures and communities.”
