Hungarian telecoms operator 4iG has announced plans to acquire mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) Netfone Telecom, in a move to strengthen its market position and expand its customer reach in Hungary.
Under the agreement, 4iG will acquire a 99% stake in Netfone. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition remains subject to approval by the Hungarian Competition Authority.
Netfone operates as an MVNO using the wholesale network of One Hungary - the joint entity of Vodafone and Digi, which is also owned by 4iG. Following the transaction, the wholesale agreement between Netfone and One will continue, as Netfone will remain a standalone company.
Netfone targets price-conscious consumers and small businesses, offering its own branded SIM cards. The company currently has 106,000 active connections and employs 72 people.
Separately, 4iG announced it will merge its three IT subsidiaries - 4iG Informatikai, INNObyte, and INNOWARE - into a single company, 4iG Informatikai, as part of its broader “Transformation Programme” launched in November 2022. The consolidation aims to streamline IT operations under a unified structure.
The merger is set to be legally completed on 30 September 2025, with the newly merged company commencing operations on 1 October 2025.
