IOH launches AI-powered anti-fraud solution with Indonesian government

Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH) partnered with Indonesia’s Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs (Kominfo) to launch an AI-powered solution designed to protect citizens from the growing threat of digital fraud.

The new anti-spam and anti-scam feature is part of a broader national effort to strengthen cybersecurity and public trust in the digital space. It was developed in response to the rising number of scam attempts in Indonesia. According to the Asia Scam Report 2024 by the Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA), 65% of Indonesians encounter scam attempts weekly - ranging from phishing texts and fake job offers to fraudulent investment schemes.

IOH stated the solution was specifically developed to meet the evolving digital risk landscape as more Indonesians come online. Operating in real-time, the AI-based system automatically detects suspicious messages or calls, filters out potential threats, and alerts users to possible fraud.

The feature was developed in collaboration with Tanla, IOH’s AI platform partner, and is supported by global organisations including Mastercard, GASA, and the GSMA.

“This partnership reflects our belief that digital protection is a fundamental right for every Indonesian,” said Vikram Sinha (pictured, third), President Director and CEO of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison.

“Our collaboration with Tanla to deploy this AI-powered solution shows how technology can safeguard daily digital lives. Built on Indosat’s sovereign AI factory and powered by cutting-edge NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs, the solution significantly enhances Indonesia’s ability to combat scams and spam in real time - reinforcing the nation’s digital resilience and public trust.”

Nezar Patria (pictured, second), Vice Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, expressed the government’s strong backing for the initiative. “We welcome Indosat’s collaborative efforts as part of a shared mission to create a safer digital space. AI should not only make technology more accessible but also open up opportunities for societal growth. Indonesia aims to be more than just a technology consumer - we aspire to be a key player in shaping AI for the real needs of our people,” he said.
