Digicel Tonga CEO to step down

Digicel Tonga announced that CEO Daniel Horan will step down from his role next month after just two years, citing personal reasons.

In a statement, the operator said Horan will leave to return to the Philippines to be with his family. He took charge of Digicel’s Tonga unit in September 2023 and was credited with playing a “pivotal role” in expanding its network, launching new services, and driving community initiatives. Most notably, under his leadership the operator launched 5G in Tonga’s capital, Nuku’alofa, in November last year.

As of June this year, the 5G network covers about 30% of the city.

On his departure, Horan said: “Leading the team at Digicel Tonga has been an incredible privilege and a truly rewarding experience. I want to thank the entire team for their passion and dedication. I will always carry great respect and admiration for the people of Tonga and remain confident that the company is in a strong position for future growth.”

Digicel Pacific Regional Hub Markets CEO Steve Long added: “His contributions have left an indelible mark on both the company and the telecommunications sector in Tonga.”

A successor has yet to be named.
