Telecom Egypt has appointed Tamer El Mahdi (pictured) as its new CEO and managing director, succeeding Mohamed Nasr.
El Mahdi assumed his role effective immediately. His first priority is to appoint replacements for Mohamed Al Fowey, Vice President and Chief Technical Officer, and Ahmed Hassan, Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer - both of whom have also stepped down.
With more than three decades of experience, El Mahdi has served as founder and chairman of Trade Globe and Terrawaves Networks since 2020, overseeing global operations in telecom consultancy, network design, and digital infrastructure development.
From 2014 to 2019, he was Group CEO of Orascom Telecom Media and Technology, where he led the company’s strategic transformation and diversification across multiple industries. He also served as CEO of Orascom Telecom Algeria, the country’s largest mobile operator.
Commenting on his new role, El Mahdi said: “I will spare no effort in maximising the company’s value and shareholder wealth by implementing ambitious strategies that support sustainable growth, reinforce our leadership in the telecom and digital services markets, and strengthen our role in serving the economy and society.”
