Latin American operator streamlines operations and supply with SIM allocation solution

The largest mobile operator in the Americas, Claro, has implemented a new Dynamic SIM Allocation (DSA) solution to help streamline its SIM card supply chain logistics and optimise its telephone number inventory. The solution is delivered by software services provider Evolving Systems, in conjunction with digital security specialist Gemalto.

The decision to implement the solution resulted from a stringent Request for Proposal (RFP) process - in order to comply with countrywide number utilisation regulations imposed by the Brazilian regulator ANATEL, Claro was obliged to optimise its SIM card provisioning process in a very short time frame.

Claro is also required to operate under a regional numbering plan, which can be hampered when SIM cards are pre-provisioned; the DSA solution is intended as a means of addressing this issue.

Rodrigo Serna, Gemalto’s VP of Telecommunications for Latin America, said “DSA will effectively enable Claro to continue its exponential growth and meet regulatory requirements, all while delivering an enhanced customer experience to the end-user.”

“We are extremely pleased that we have been able to bring the DSA solution into live production at Claro,” says Thad Dupper, Evolving Systems’ CEO and chairman. “The combined offering represents a valuable business proposition for operators in the large and competitive Brazilian market.”
