Internet test and analytics firm Ookla Company has presented an award to MegaFon for “The Fastest Mobile Network”.
MegaFon showed the best figures among all mobile operators according to results of the consumer-initiated Internet access tests taken by Russian users via the Speedtest® by Ookla application in Q2–Q3 2017. The average loading speed detected on devices in Moscow was 40.34 Mbits/s, in Saint Petersburg 26.77 Mbits/s, and the average in Russia 25.04 Mbits/s. For the research Ookla analysed the data of more than 7,900,000 tests via all networks of all operators in Russia from more than 1,200,000 devices with LTE support.
“MegaFon traditionally focuses on quality of communication and endeavours to provide the Internet access on highest speed. In May 2012 we were the first in Russia to launch 4G LTE, and in February 2014 we put into operation the first commercial LTE-Advanced network, increasing data transmission speed up to 300 Mbits/s. On the 8th of August 2017 we were one of the first companies in the world to launch Gigabit LTE for a commercial service and we demonstrated the speed of 979 Mbits/s,” said Svyatoslav Gorban, MegaFon Head of Strategic Marketing. “Furthermore, MegaFon has built more base stations than any other Russian mobile network operator. Results of millions of speed tests using the Ookla Speedtest application prove our leadership in Russia, Moscow and Saint Petersburg and I am honored to get this award.”
“By virtue of millions of tests by Speedtest every day, Ookla developed a secure and comprehensive review of global Internet performance. Based on our detailed analysis, we are pleased to recognise MegaFon as the fastest mobile network in Russia. This award is the proof of an exceptional performance of MegaFon built upon user experience of their clients,” commented Eric Emerson, Director at Ookla.
