The strongest trends I see for 2013 largely are centered on deepening the connectivity for subscribers around the globe:
- ongoing network expansion
- delivery of 3G into markets where there is no current connectivity
- the expansion of broadband services to rural areas, and
- the beginning of the migration to 4G in markets where 3G has already taken hold.
In developing markets, mobile connectivity has emerged as the main and often only means for accessing broadband services. That's why, even in today's economic environment, operators will have to continue to deploy in 2013 and backhaul deployments will continue to be a major element of this expansion as connection with the ‘outside world’ becomes more of a reality and the density of service offerings and quality of the user experience continues to improve.
We will see 4G/LTE deployments on a lesser level but they will become more commonplace especially towards the end of the year as they help to level the global economic playing field.
