Ericsson India reportedly sold off its 0.6% stake in Vodafone Idea (Vi) on Tuesday to undisclosed buyers for INR4.28 billion (US$49.9 million), less than two months after Nokia’s Indian unit did likewise.
According to ETTelecom, citing data from the National Stock Exchange of India, Ericsson India sold 633.7 million shares in Vi at INR6.76 each in a bulk deal. The identity of the buyers has not yet been disclosed.
Ericsson India originally purchased a 0.9% in Vi in June 2024 for INR9.38 billion as part of a fundraising scheme by the telco to fund its network rollout and pay off part of its dues to Ericsson.
In March 2025 the stake was diluted to 0.6% after the Indian government increased its stake in Vi from 22.6% to 48.99%, the report said.
Nokia Solutions and Networks India was also part of Vi’s 2024 fundraising sale, buying a 1.5% stake in the telco (diluted to 0.95% in March) for INR15.2 billion.
Nokia sold that stake in late April to a group of global investment banks in a bulk deal worth INR7.85 billion, with shares priced at INR7.65 each.
ETTelecom reported at the time that Goldman Sachs (Singapore) was confirmed to be among the buyers, acquiring INR4.57 billion worth of shares, giving it a 0.55% stake in Vi.
