Russia orders 5G deployments to use local kit

Russia’s State Radio Frequencies Commission has decreed that all 5G equipment used for networks in the country must be homegrown.

Comnews.ru quoted Oleg Ivanov, Russia’s deputy minister of digitisation, as saying that the country will apply the technology-neutral principle to 5G deployment, but that operators must use equipment made by domestic companies.

Operators will be able to refarm spectrum holdings currently in use for LTE offerings in order to deliver 5G, provided they are within the 694-790МHz, 2300-2400МHz, 2570-2620MHz, 4400-4990МHz and 24.25-27.5 GHz bands.
