Panama’s competition regulator has given the green light for the proposed merger between Liberty Latin America’s unit Cable & Wireless and local rival Claro Panama.
Panama’s Consumer Protection and Competition Authority (Autoridad de Proteccion al Consumidor y Defensa de la Competencia, ACODECO), has ordered the two companies to continue operations separately for 10 months starting March 17, before integration processes can begin, reported CommsUpdate.
The merger proposal will now be progressed for approval from the National Public Services Authority
Cable & Wireless operate under the +Movil brand. Parent company Liberty Latin America agreed to buy Claro Panama from America Movil in an all-cash transaction valued at US$200 million in September 2021.
