Saudi Arabian operator Mobily has been legally prevented from selling prepaid SIM cards by the Kingdom’s regulator.
The operator stands accused of failing to meet "prepaid service provisioning requirements" that it was ordered to adhere to following the introduction of SIM registration rules in September.
If the issue is not resolved swiftly then Mobily’s revenue could take a significant hit. Its UAE-based affiliate Etisalat has already pledged its support, with CEO Ahmad Julfar noting the importance of the Saudi market to Etisalat’s portfolio.
He added that Etisalat would increase its 28% stake in Mobily if the chance arose.
