El Salvador to auction AWS and 1900MHz spectrum

El Salvador has announced the auction of 20MHz of mobile spectrum in the 1900MHz (PCS) band on 12th December.

The Superintendencia General de Electricidad y Telecom (SIGET) has called for potential bidders to submit applications by 4th December.

Two holdings of 2x5MHz will be made available, with 10MHz available in the 1850MHz-1855MHz/1930MHz-1935MHz range and another 10MHz in the 1855MHz-1860MHz/1935MHz-1940MHz band. The reserve price of the two holdings is set at US$6.25 million.

The regulator has also announced that it plans to sell 120MHz of 1700MHz/2100MHz (AWS and Extended AWS) band spectrum at around the same time. Split into twelve 2x5MHz holdings, these would include 90MHz in the 1710MHz-1755MHz/2110MHz-2155MHz (AWS) range and 30MHz in the 1755MHz-1770MHz/2155MHz-2170MHz (Extended AWS) band.
